Part of the Governments net zero plans has been to install more heat pumps. They have set a target to increase annual installation from 30,000 to 600,000 heat pumps by 2028.  However, the government have missed out one crucial step in their plan, they haven’t considered the labour of installing the heat pumps.

It has been estimated that around 27,000 heat pump engineers will be needed in the UK, but as of now we only have around 3,000. This means that around 6,000 more people will have to be trained per year to meet the governments targets.

This means that thousands more people will have to train as heat pump engineers to make any real progress in providing low carbon alternative to gas boilers. Therefore, in order to reduce the amount gas British homes are using the government must make the training mire accessible to increase the amount of heat pump engineers that we have.
